This truly remarkable chess set has been created by skilful artists and craftsmen and is based on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the famous fictional private detective. The chess pieces represent characters or places that appear in the many Sherlock Holmes stories penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The first appearance of Sherlock Holmes was in Conan Doyle’s adventure story ‘A Study in Scarlet’ published in November 1887. The success of this story led to a collaboration with The Strand Magazine which published stories of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and his colleague, Doctor Watson. The stories in The Strand Magazine were illustrated by Sidney Paget and it is from these illustrations that the sculptors and artists have taken their inspiration.
When you play chess with this detailed chess set, get ready for another gripping battle between Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty and who knows who will win the next challenge.
