This Isle of Lewis chess set, complete with presentation box, is a genuine replica of the original chess pieces which were discovered on the world famous Isle of Lewis off the West Coast of Scotland which are now housed safely and securely in the Museum of London and Edinburgh. Because of the direct involvement of the British Museum in developing the moulds for these chessmen, this is the closest reproduction of the historic Lewis chessmen available today. Originally discovered on the Isle of Lewis around 1170, they are of Scandinavian origin.

The Isle of Lewis chess pieces presented in Milk Chocolate and Chocolate Brown have an antique ivory finish and the Chess set is made from a composite of crushed stone and resin, which makes for the look and feel of stone, while exhibiting the durability of a composite.

The chess pieces in this presentation boxed chess set are still completely hand crafted and the skills learned over many years have been refined and brought to perfection to produce these highly original chess pieces that are intricate, decorative and tactile. Includes chess board.
